Refugee Student Alliance
at the University of Rochester

The University of Rochester Refugee Student Alliance has branches at the UR Medical Center and the UR River Campus. The UR Refugee Student Alliance seeks to help the refugee community in a variety of ways through recruiting volunteers, holding awareness events, clothing drives and fundraisers. Specifically, they work with Mary’s Place, RCSD School #15, the Catholic Family Center, the Bhutanese community, Saint’s Place, and more. The Refugee Student Alliance is constantly seeking more volunteers, and can also provide volunteers if organizations are in need. The Alliance connects teams of volunteers with newly arrived refugee families via the Catholic Family Center.

Programs include:

  • Tutoring former refugee youth and adults at Mary's Place.
  • Tutoring former refugee youth at School #15.

We hold drives for clothing, school supplies, toiletries and any other items that refugees need (the donations are distributed to former refugees by Saint's Place and Mary's Place).

We hold events to raise awareness about refugee crises, issues and successed in the former refugee community here in Rochester, and work with other community organizations to help former refugees in Rochester realize their dreams.
